Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, can help alleviate the anxiety for some patients.

At Basking Ridge Pediatric Dentistry, the nitrous oxide is administered though a mask on the nose and can put the child at ease in a few minutes. Most of our patients are good candidates for nitrous oxide.

Nitrous oxide is perhaps the safest sedative in dentistry.  It is non-addictive.  It is mild, easily taken, and quickly eliminated from the body. Your child remains fully conscious and keeps all natural reflexes when breathing nitrous oxide and  oxygen.  If nitrous oxide will be used at a visit, we ask that you give your child little or no food before the visit. Nausea or vomiting may occur when a child has a full stomach.

General Anesthesia

Dental anxiety can keep many children and special needs patients from visiting the dentist and and hinder much needed dental care. For some patients, comprehensive dental care under general anesthesia may be an viable option. Dr. Nguyen is on staff a Morristown Medical Center and can provide dental care under general anesthesia. General anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist with the team of nurses and surgical techs.
