Pediatric Dental Crowns

Pediatric dental crowns can help improve the dental health. There are number of factors that can cause caries in primary teeth from inherited factors, dietary factors such as sugary drinks and frequent snacking, sleeping with the bottle or having the bottle before bedtime and inadequate and supervised and help with brushing and flossing.

Many parents believe that the baby teeth will fall out and therefore no treatment is needed. However, baby molars do not exfoliate until the ages of 10 to 12. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the health of the teeth and oral cavity and to also maintain the space until the permanent teeth to erupt.

At Basking Ridge Pediatric Dentistry, we provide dental crowns to help protect your child's health and future orthodontic needs. Crowns may be recommended if the caries is extensive or after root canal therapy (pulpotomy).

Stainless Steel Crowns

When caries are extensive, stainless steel crowns covering the baby molars help protect the molars until they naturally exfoliate (fall out).  Stainless steel crowns have been long established as the standard of care and has the resiliency to maintain the structure and integrity of the tooth.

Zirconia White Crowns

For certain patients, Zirconia white crowns can be an option.
